Find answers to common questions about Ledger
Getting Started
6Head to Settings and tap 'Connect Account.' Ledger uses Plaid — a trusted, bank-level secure service — to link your accounts. You'll authenticate directly with your bank through Plaid's interface. Ledger never sees or stores your banking credentials.
Ledger supports over 10,000 banks, credit unions, and financial institutions across the US and Canada through Plaid. If your bank offers online banking, it's almost certainly supported. You can search for your institution during the connection flow.
For now, you get full access to everything — bank connections, transaction tracking, subscription detection, budgets, folders, analytics, Quill, and the achievement system — while Ledger is in this pre-release phase. When Ledger launches publicly, it will be $6. We'll share the exact plan and billing details ahead of release.
Tap 'Sign Up' on the homepage, enter your email, and create a password. That's it. Once you're in, you can connect your first bank account and start tracking your finances immediately.
Yes. Ledger is a progressive web app that works on any device with a modern browser. On mobile, you can add it to your home screen for a native app-like experience — no app store required.
Follow these steps for your device and browser:
iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- Open Ledger in Safari (use Safari — “Add to Home Screen” is not available from Chrome on iOS).
- Tap the Share button (square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen.”
- Edit the name if you like, then tap “Add.”
Android (Chrome)
- Open Ledger in Chrome.
- Tap the menu (three dots) in the top-right corner.
- Tap “Add to Home screen” or “Install app.”
- Confirm by tapping “Add” or “Install.”
Android (Samsung Internet)
- Open Ledger in Samsung Internet.
- Tap the menu (three lines) and choose “Add page to” → “Home screen.”
- Confirm the name and tap “Add.”
Once added, open Ledger from your home screen like any other app, you’ll get a full-screen experience. You will still need an internet connection to use Ledger.
Security & Privacy
5Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest. Bank connections are handled entirely through Plaid using bank-level, 256-bit encryption. Ledger only receives read-only access to your account data — we can never move money or make transactions on your behalf.
No. Ledger never sees, receives, or stores your banking credentials. When you connect an account, you authenticate directly with Plaid, which communicates securely with your bank. Your login details stay between Plaid and your financial institution.
Only you. Ledger uses secure authentication to ensure your data is accessible only to you. We do not share, sell, or trade your financial data with any third party — ever.
No. Ledger does not sell your financial data or personal information to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. We don't run ads, and we don't use your data for targeted advertising. Privacy is a core principle, not a marketing line.
In the unlikely event of a breach, we would notify all affected users immediately and take all necessary steps to secure accounts. Because Ledger never stores your banking credentials, a breach would not expose your bank login information.
Features
10Ledger automatically analyzes your transaction history to identify recurring charges — monthly, quarterly, yearly, or otherwise. Detected subscriptions show you cost breakdowns by frequency. You can also manually mark or unmark transactions as recurring.
You can create budgets for specific categories or merchants with flexible time periods (weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly). Ledger tracks your daily spending against each budget with visual charts, health indicators, and projected end-of-period totals. You can also filter budgets by account and optionally track income alongside spending.
Smart Budgets are AI-powered budgets that Ledger can recommend based on your actual spending patterns. Instead of guessing a number, Smart Budgets analyze your history and suggest realistic limits. They include projected spending, health tracking, and automatically adapt their recommendations over time.
Folders let you group transactions into custom collections — like a vacation, a home renovation, or monthly groceries. You can pin transactions manually or turn on Active Mode to automatically capture new transactions as they come in. Each folder tracks its own spending, income, and net totals with color-coded organization.
Quill is Ledger's AI financial assistant. You can ask natural-language questions about your spending, like 'How much did I spend on dining last month?' or 'What are my biggest expenses this year?' Quill analyzes your actual transaction data and gives you instant, contextual answers. Conversations are private and not stored long-term.
Yes. Ledger provides comprehensive analytics including spending trends over time, category breakdowns, merchant-level insights, and interactive charts. You can filter by time period, account, and category to understand exactly where your money goes.
Ledger includes a gamified achievement system with an interactive skill tree. You can set financial goals — weekly, monthly, or custom-dated — like limiting spending in certain categories, maintaining no-spend days, or hitting savings targets. Completed achievements unlock nodes on your skill tree, giving you a visual map of your financial progress.
Account data syncs automatically when Plaid receives updates from your bank, typically within 1–3 days of transactions posting. You can also manually refresh your accounts at any time to pull the latest data on demand.
Yes. Ledger lets you export your full transaction history, subscription data, and account information. Your data belongs to you, and you can take it with you anytime.
Absolutely. While Ledger automatically categorizes transactions, you can create custom categories and reassign any transaction to better match your spending habits. Your custom categories carry through to analytics, budgets, and the AI assistant.
Account Management
4Yes. You can connect as many bank accounts, credit cards, and financial accounts as you'd like. All connected accounts appear on your dashboard, and you can view them individually or as a combined picture of your finances.
Go to Settings, find the connected account you want to remove, and tap Disconnect. This stops future syncing and removes that account's data from Ledger. Your data at the bank itself is never affected.
Yes. You can delete your account at any time from Settings. This permanently removes all of your data from Ledger's systems — transactions, preferences, connections, everything. This action cannot be undone.
Try the password reset feature on the login page first. If you're still having trouble, reach out through the contact information on our Legal page and we'll help you regain access.
